It’s great to see these gals all in their get-ups, throwing punches and kicking butt.”READ MORE Facebook Advertisement CBC is bringing a new female role model to the forefront with Frankie Drake Mysteries. The series, which premieres Monday, November 6, stars Lauren Lee Smith (This Life) as title character Frankie Drake and TV newcomer Chantel Riley as her crime-solving partner Trudy, two private detectives living in Toronto in the 1920s. It follows their adventures, tackling the cases that the local police won’t take.“It has elements of everything,” Smith told The TV Junkies during a visit to the set. “The period aspect, the action-adventure aspect, the drama aspect, and the somewhat procedural aspect in that every episode the audience will know that there’s some conflict that needs to be resolved. Chopra (WB): Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday said the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will drive the BJP out of power and ensure that Narendra Modi will never again be the prime minister. The Trinamool Congress will help form the next government at the Centre, she claimed and urged the people to vote for it. “This time it is a very important election. This election is to defeat the BJP. It is to drive out the BJP from power … This election is to make sure that Narendra Modi can never be the prime minister of the country again. We must ensure that they (BJP) never come back,” Banerjee said at an election rally at Chopra in Uttar Dinajpur. And after the elections people will not find him anywhere. For four and half years he was busy touring the globe and now there is no employment here, farmers have died failing to pay their debts… He was mum when people were lynched. While Ohio State’s football team will be playing under the lights for a second week in a row, the mood surrounding Saturday’s game against Indiana might differ from the one that resonated during last weekend’s 63-38 win against Nebraska. After back-to-back wins against ranked Big Ten competition vaulted the Buckeyes to No. 8 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, coach Urban Meyer said he’s concerned that his team might overlook an unranked Hoosiers squad. It’s an issue that Meyer addressed as a “huge concern” Wednesday night. “(Indiana) has played better,” Meyer said. “This team took – should’ve – beat Michigan State.” OSU, which matched its six wins from 2011 last Saturday, will travel to Bloomington, Ind., in just its second road game of the year for an 8 p.m. tilt with the 2-3 Hoosiers. Making it to 7-0, though, might not come as easily as some have suggested. Junior running back Carlos Hyde said it’s easy to forget that Indiana nearly beat Michigan State a week after the Buckeyes defeated the Spartans in East Lansing, Mich. “I don’t try to take any team lightly,” Hyde said. “I mean, you just can’t overlook them. Indiana is a good team. They played Michigan State great, they came out strong against Michigan State, and, you know, we beat Michigan State by a point, you know, they was beating Michigan State all the way into the fourth quarter.” Likewise, redshirt sophomore cornerback Bradley Roby said the Buckeyes aren’t going to overlook the Hoosiers. “(Indiana) is a better team than last year and last year we were losing to them for a little while,” Roby said. “We’re not going to take them for granted, we’re gonna go in and gonna make sure we try to make as many plays as early as possible to shut down any momentum they might be able to get.” OSU beat Indiana 34-20 at Ohio Stadium last season. Sometimes, Meyer said, wins can be taken for granted and the first-year coach said he’s been guilty of such a charge before. “It happened with me,” he said, “and it won’t happen again.” Hall likely out, Barnett back Meyer said senior running back and captain Jordan Hall likely won’t play in the Buckeyes’ game against Indiana. “He’s just not full speed,” Meyer said. “(He’s) doubtful for this week.” Junior safety C.J. Barnett, however, will play, Meyer said. “(He’s) about full speed,” Meyer said. “He’s playing.” Replacing Sabino After redshirt senior linebacker and captain Etienne Sabino left last Saturday’s game against Nebraska with a broken right fibula, Meyer said OSU hasn’t finalized anything yet as to who will be stepping into the vacancy left by the the Miami, Fla., native. Meyer, though, said freshman linebacker Joshua Perry, who saw substantial action Saturday, is getting better, as is fellow freshman linebacker David Perkins and senior linebacker Storm Klein. The coach said he went back and “did homework” on the recruitment of linebackers and noticed “out of the last 10 guys (recruited), only two are really playing.” The depth of OSU’s linebackers, Meyer said, is a concern. “We got to get some guys going, they got to get going,” he said. “That position is not Ohio State standard right now, not depth-wise.” Hyde ready for more touches After toting the ball 28 times for 140 rushing yards and four touchdowns against the Cornhuskers, Hyde said he’s fine carrying a load for the Buckeyes’ offense. “That’s part of being a running back carrying the ball that many times,” Hyde said. “I’m ready and excited for that.”

The two losses dropped Ohio State from first place in the Big Ten to a tie with Purdue for second behind Michigan State with just two games remaining. With its Big Ten regular-season title hopes all but dashed, Ohio State (22-6, 11-3 Big Ten) will focus on bouncing back from the losses and gaining momentum heading into Big Ten tournament play in its its final home game of the season against Rutgers at 7 p.m. Tuesday.Projected StartersRutgers:G — Corey Sanders — Junior, 6-foot-2, 176 lbs., 14.2 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.1 apgG — Geo Baker — Freshman, 6-foot-4, 180 lbs., 10.9 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 0.9 apgG — Issa Thiam — Sophomore, 6-foot-10, 190 lbs., 7.4 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.6 apgF — Deshawn Freeman — Senior, 6-foot-7, 227 lbs., 11.3 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 0.9 apgC — Shaquille Doorson — Junior, 7-foot, 275 lbs., 2.0 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 0.2 apgOhio State: G — C.J. The Buckeyes lost physical battles against both Penn State and Michigan. Penn State out-rebounded Ohio State 38-30. Michigan finished with a slight 26-25 defensive rebounding advantage, but also scored 32 points in the paint.Part of the Buckeyes’ issues stemmed from defending guards larger than their own. Penn State’s 6-foot-5, 204-pound guard Tony Carr dropped 30 points — including 4-for-8 from 3-point range — against Ohio State. The next game, Michigan’s 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman delivered 17 points, and 6-foot-4, 190-pound freshman Jordan Poole scored 15.Rutgers is fourth in the conference in offensive rebounding, the 30th-tallest team in the country and has relied on strong post play to generate the bulk of its scoring. Overall, 60.5 percent of its points have come from 2-pointers this season, the second-highest percentage in the country. The Scarlet Knights also have received the most out of their guards. Geo Baker and Corey Sanders are two of the highest point-scorers on the team. The two were the only players to score double-digits against Ohio State in the last meeting between the two teams on Jan. 14.It would seem like a concerning matchup for the Buckeyes if not for the team’s inept offense. The Scarlet Knights average the 20th-fewest points per game in the nation with the ninth-lowest field-goal percentage in the country.Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann said going up against a good rebounding team and one that relies on interior scoring to win means his team will need to focus on what plagued it in the past two games.“When their guards are rolling and their bigs play off their guards really well, they make it for a difficult matchup,” Holtmann said. “It’s as physical a team as we probably play in the Big Ten I think. So I’m anxious to see how our guys respond to their physicality and length and rebounding ability.”Senior DayTuesday night will mark the final time seniors Jae’Sean Tate, Kam Williams and Andrew Dakich take the court at the Schottenstein Center as Buckeyes. There is also a chance it will be redshirt junior forward Keita Bates-Diop’s final home game in Scarlet and Gray, if he forgoes his remaining year of eligibility to leave for the NBA draft. There will be a pregame ceremony for the seniors and Bates-Diop, and a chance for the players to address the fans after the game.Tate said his collegiate career has not flown by, but that his senior year has felt quicker than any other season despite the fact it could last longer than most other years due to the chance for extended postseason play.“Maybe that’s because we’re winning, having more fun than we have in a couple past years,” Tate said. “We’ve still got a good team coming in tomorrow, and we’ve still got to prepare for Indiana and make noise in the Big Ten tournament.”

Cameroon international Benoit Assou-Ekotto, publicly went after French young star Kylian Mbappé due to his choice to play for France as an African player.Earlier this year, Cameroon international Benoit Assou-Ekotto came after Kylian Mbappé for choosing to play for France instead of the African country. The Cameroonian full-back who played for Tottenham Hotspur was actually born in France, but he has blood from Algeria as well as Cameroon and he decided to play for one of those two national teams throughout his career. But players who have parents born in African countries, often choose to represent the French National Team instead of their heritage, just like Kylian Mbappé and nearly 80% of the squad that won the World Cup. But people like Ekotto don’t like how many of those players brag about their roots, and yet they decided to turn their back on those countries to seek glory for France. Right after the summer tournament came to an end, there was a lot of backlash by many fans who were having none of it and called them out on their hypocrisy for saying they are proudly from that continent and not even entertaining the idea of making a different choice when asked. France is one of the national teams with the richest heritage diversity in the world, a factor that for many was key for both of their World Cup successes.un lion qui copie un lion devient un singe… V.H… pic.twitter.com/YcWONBFp7D— Benoit Assou-Ekotto (@AssouEkotto) February 26, 2018But people like Benoit Assou-Ekotto feel very offended by the public statements that many of these players make, Kylian Mbappé recently spoke about how he wants to be a part of the development of football in Africa during a meeting with president Emmanuel Macron from France, and Geroge Weah from Liberia. Ekotto seemed to take serious offense by Mbappé’s words and responded by telling RMC that: “European players of African origin who hold Africa in their hearts and who want to help the sport in Africa… blah, blah, blah… while rushing to play for a European national team make me chuckle. It looks good when you have a cause though. Put yourself in the place of the players from Cameroon. You, a French player are going to come to develop us… Stay at home, help your guys in Bondy, in your neighborhood, in your France. Yes, you love Africa, but you never go there. So what’s the story? Yes, you love your wife, but you go out with another. It’s a game I know, manipulate public opinion, blah, blah blah,” said the 34-year old player during a debate panel for RMC.my SatayHouse pic.twitter.com/TTGDBoMcpMRevealed: Florentino Perez’s plan to sign Kylian Mbappe Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 12, 2019 According to a report from ‘El Chiringuito’, Florentino Perez revealed his plans to sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG next season. We all knew this was…— Benoit Assou-Ekotto (@AssouEkotto) March 26, 2018Although the anger from the Metz player can be understood to a certain level, Kylian Mbappé was born in France and as such he is a Frenchman with the freedom to pick the country he wants to represent. Ekotto’s case actually is more directed at players who were born in African countries and still decided to play for France, but players like Pogba, Kante, or Mbappé don’t have to explain themselves to anyone and much less this player who clearly could use a hug. But then again if you stop for a minute to think about it, if all the players with African heritage decided to play for those countries, maybe we would have stronger national teams from all around the continent and competitions like the World Cup would be far more exciting than they already are. Kylian Mbappé does identify himself as a Frenchman from Paris, one who was bred in the streets of Bondy and learned everything he knows from that place. There is nothing in sports that make people more proud, than watching a player you grew up with triumph with the country he represents. Kylian Mbappé’s friends must be very proud of them, even if Benoit Assou-Ekotto isn’t.LIVERPOOL ✈️ pic.twitter.com/9cay1iUWSB— Kylian Mbappé (@KMbappe) September 17, 2018What do you think about Mbappé and Ekotto’s disagreement? Tech Industry Tags 0 Post a comment Share your voice Google Maps is adding new features for travelers. Getty Google wants its Maps app to be about more than just getting directions. The search giant on Thursday announced a handful of new features aimed at helping people while they are planning trips and traveling. One new feature lets people pull up their travel reservations, like flight and hotel bookings, so they don’t have to leave the app while they’re navigating to a new destination. The tool works if you’re offline, so it’s available for travelers going to off-the-grid places. Another update lets people export a list of of restaurants and other places they’ve visited to share with friends. The changes come after Google shut down its travel management app Trips earlier this week but said it would integrate its features into the company’s other products.Google also said Thursday it’s expanding its augmented reality walking navigations, a feature that helps people find their way by using a phone’s camera and showing digital arrows on the screen. The feature, which has been in testing, is also getting a new name: Live View. It will be available on Android phones and iPhones that can support augmented reality graphics, in locations where Google Maps’ Street View is available. The new features are part of a push to make Maps a more useful hub of information. In June, for example, the company introduced new tools to help people during a crisis or natural disaster, like showing an earthquake’s epicenter or making it easier to navigate through a crisis zone. Google Maps has also been expanding its discovery tools. Earlier this year, the company said the Maps would highlight a menu’s most popular dishes and let people order food directly from the app. The features announced Thursday, though, also highlight just how much Google knows about its users. It can corral all your travel bookings in the app because it knows your plans from Gmail receipts and web history. The list of your favorite restaurants is generated if you’ve turned on your location history. The location history tool has drawn criticism in the past. Google faced blowback after the Associated Press reported last year that Google tracked people’s location even after they’d turned off location-sharing on their phones. Google Alphabet Inc.

We declared one candidate for each constituency who were declared legal by the EC. If these candidates are declared illegal now, who’ll take the responsibility?,” BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan asked. The BNP leader came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after a meeting with the CEC and its other officials at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city. When the election commission declared them legal, the court is declaring them illegal. If there was any mistake it was done by the EC, he said.”We’ve proposed the election commission two things — either allow us to field alternative candidates to those constituencies where BNP candidates have been declared illegal by the court or reschedule the election there,” he said. The election commission heard our complaints and said they will take a decision in this regard soon, he said. The High Court declared eight BNP aspirants illegal who were earlier declared qualified by the returning officers and the election commission. Photo: AFPThe United States voiced hope Friday that nuclear disarmament negotiations with North Korea would continue following reports that Pyongyang is considering suspending the talks.Russian news agency TASS said the North’s vice foreign minister Choe Son-Hui had rejected yielding to “US demands in any form,” after the Hanoi summit between leader Kim Jong Un and president Donald Trump ended without agreement in February.”We are hopeful that we can continue to hold this conversation,” US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters in Washington. The report came amid concerns over the North’s satellite rocket launch site, where some rebuilding activity has been observed in recent weeks, triggering international alarm that Pyongyang might be preparing a long-range missile or space launch.Trump told a post-summit press conference in Hanoi that the North Korean leader had promised he would maintain his moratorium on missile and nuclear tests.Kim was due soon to make an official statement on the actions his country would take, Choe told reporters and foreign diplomats in Pyongyang.”In Hanoi on multiple occasions, (Kim) spoke directly to the president and made a commitment that he would not resume nuclear testing, nor would he resume missile testing,” Pompeo said.”We have every expectation that he will live up to that commitment.”Any launch would send the denuclearization talks into complete disarray, after they were left stuttering when the summit ended without agreement two weeks ago.Choe — who was present in Vietnam — blamed the United States for the failure, saying Pompeo and national security advisor John Bolton “created the atmosphere of hostility and mistrust” and “obstructed” Kim and Trump’s “constructive effort.””As a result, the summit ended with no significant result,” she added. It is a change of tone from Pyongyang, after both sides expressed their willingness to carry on the discussion process in Hanoi.Ankit Panda, of the Federation of American Scientists, said Kim’s unilateral declaration of the ICBM testing moratorium was “now in question.”It could mean a decision had already been made, he tweeted, but added that it did not mean a launch was imminent.”One play is for Kim to reaffirm the moratorium. Kim looks big,” he said. “That also keeps China happy for now.”Another play is to renounce the moratorium, which would be risky,” as it would upset China, be “disappointing” to Trump, and “squanders the inter-Korean process”.Big dealSeoul’s presidential office sought to play down the vice-minister’s comments, saying it was “premature to assess the current situation only with Choe’s remarks.”South Korea will continue to work for the resumption of talks, it added.Washington wants what administration officials have called a “big deal,” with the complete elimination of weapons of mass destruction in return for the dropping of sanctions that have hit the isolated North’s economy.”Nobody in the administration advocates a step-by-step approach,” a senior State Department official told reporters last week. The North says it only called for the partial lifting of UN sanctions imposed in 2016-17 that affect people’s livelihoods. But Washington sees these measures as the bulk of economic sanctions that brought Kim to the table, and believes without them it would lose leverage in future talks.Pyongyang favours a more incremental approach, with Kim proposing dismantling facilities at its Yongbyon nuclear complex in exchange for lifting the main sanctions — an offer Trump refused in Hanoi despite the vaunted “chemistry” between the pair.In his New Year’s speech — a key political event in the North — Kim said he would be “compelled to find a new way for defending the sovereignty” of the state if Washington “persists in imposing sanctions and pressure.”
To Be Black in White America explores the politicization of the Black Identity in the United States. From legalized slavery to the most recent, hateful thing that Donald Trump said, a minority of Americans have been desperately and diligently fighting against a White power structure for equality throughout the nation’s relatively short history. By Bill Barrow and Kate Brumback, The Associated PressDemocrat Stacey Abrams ended 10 days of post-election drama in Georgia’s closely watched and even more closely contested race for governor Nov. 16, acknowledging Republican Brian Kemp as the victor while defiantly refusing to concede to the man she blamed for “gross mismanagement” of a bitterly fought election. The speech Abrams delivered at her campaign headquarters Friday evening marked the close of the 44-year-old attorney and former lawmaker’s unsuccessful attempt to make history as America’s first Black woman governor. Since Election Day her campaign fought on, insisting efforts to suppress turnout had left thousands of ballots uncounted that otherwise could erode Kemp’s lead and force a runoff election.Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams makes remarks during a press conference at the Abrams Headquarters in Atlanta, Nov. 16, 2018. Democrat Stacey Abrams says she will file a federal lawsuit to challenge the “gross mismanagement” of Georgia elections. (Alyssa Pointer/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP)Kemp, the 55-year-old businessman who oversaw the election as Georgia’s secretary of state, will keep the governor’s office in GOP hands as the state’s third Republican governor since Reconstruction. He responded to Abrams ending her campaign by calling for unity and praising his opponent’s “passion, hard work, and commitment to public service.”The kind words came just days after Kemp’s campaign spokesman derided Abrams’ efforts to have contested ballots counted as a “disgrace to democracy.”Abrams made no such retreat from her criticisms of Kemp, saying she refused “to say nice things and accept my fate.” Instead, she announced plans to file a federal lawsuit to challenge the way Georgia’s elections are run. She accused Kemp of using the secretary of state’s office to aggressively purge the rolls of inactive voters, enforce an “exact match” policy for checking voters’ identities that left thousands of registrations in limbo, and enact other measures to tile the outcome in his favor.“Let’s be clear: This is not a speech of concession,” Abrams said. “Because concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true or proper. As a woman of conscience and faith, I cannot concede that.”The race grabbed the attention of the nation, with Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey campaigning for Abrams in the final days and President Donald Trump holding a rally for Kemp.Unofficial returns showed Kemp ahead by roughly 60,000 votes out of nearly 4 million cast on Nov. 6. Kemp declared himself governor-elect the next day and stepped down as Georgia’s secretary of state, though thousands of absentee and provisional ballots remained uncounted.Abrams, meanwhile, sent volunteers across the state in search of voters whose ballots were rejected. She filed suit in federal court to force county elections boards to count absentee ballots with incorrect birthdates. Her campaign even planned for possible litigation to challenge the election’s certified outcome.Abrams didn’t take that route. She said she had concluded “the law currently allows no further viable remedy.” Instead, she said she would fight to restore integrity to Georgia’s election system in a new initiative called Fair Fight Georgia.“In the coming days, we will be filing a major federal lawsuit against the state of Georgia for the gross mismanagement of this election and to protect future elections from unconstitutional actions,” Abrams said, though she gave no details.Kemp tried to move past the contentious campaign even if his opponent wasn’t willing.“The election is over, and hardworking Georgians are ready to move forward,” he said. “We can no longer dwell on the divisive politics of the past but must focus on Georgia’s bright and promising future.”Kemp had been secretary of state since 2010. He was backed by and had embraced Trump as he tried to maintain GOP dominance in a state that hasn’t elected a Democrat to the governor’s mansion since 1998.Trump praised the Democrat in lauding Kemp’s victory, tweeting: “Congratulations to Brian Kemp on becoming the new Governor of Georgia. Stacey Abrams fought brilliantly and hard — she will have a terrific political future! Brian was unrelenting and will become a great Governor for the truly Wonderful People of Georgia!”Kemp stormed to the GOP nomination with ads featuring everything from the candidate cranking a chain saw and jokingly pointing a gun toward a teen male suitor of his daughter, to Kemp’s offer to “round up criminal illegals” himself in his pickup truck. He’s promised a tax cut and teacher pay raises and pledged to continue Georgia’s refusal to expand Medicaid insurance under President Barack Obama’s 2010 health care overhaul.Abrams’ campaign sparked huge energy across the state and she became a national Democratic star. Election turnout among both sides’ energized bases nearly equaled that of the 2016 presidential vote.Aides close to Abrams said that since the election she had been wrestling with competing priorities: She wanted to advance her assertions that Georgia’s elections process — which Kemp managed as secretary of state — makes it too hard for some citizens to vote. But she also recognized that a protracted legal fight would harm that cause and potentially her political future.Kemp’s victory is an important marker ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Kemp’s narrow margin already suggests that Georgia, a state Trump won by 5 percentage points in 2016, could be a genuine battleground in two years.___Associated Press writer Russ Bynum also contributed from Atlanta.
