first_imgFilm Nova Scotia and Empire Theatres are continuing their commitment to promote local work with the renewal of the ir free Screening Nights partnership for 2008. Screening Nights, held three times a year, allow local audiences to see homegrown film productions and enable local filmmakers to promote their work. The first free screening this year will be Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Oxford Theatre with imX communications inc. and Sepia Film’s Genie-nominated film Partition. Partition is a moving and epic love story that tells the story of Gian Singh and the vulnerable Naseem, a young woman he finds himself responsible for after she is separated from her family. Slowly, resisting taboos, Gian finds himself falling in love with Naseem and she shyly responds. The film stars Jimi Mistry (East is East), Kristen Kreuk (Smallville) and Neve Campbell (Scream). The film, directed by Vic Sarin, has recently been honoured with two nominations from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. The Genie Awards, which honour exceptional achievements in Canadian film, will be presented March 3, in Toronto.last_img read more
