With tinted white walls, natural plank floors, and uncomplicated furnishings we sought to create a retreat from the clamor of New York’s streets. The renovation expanded the resident’s single bedroom apartment that was the rear half of the building’s third floor to now occupy the entire floor. With the challenge of designing a sanctuary within a tourist center of New York, we took inspiration from Scandinavia minimalism and Japanese interconnectedness. This manifested as a centralized ‘cube’ that provides the amenities and storage required by each room adjacent to it. Each of the faces serves one of the three defined spaces; the living and dining area, the bedroom and office, and the kitchen.Save this picture!Courtesy of Echo Design + ArchitectureThe cube’s simple white panels and recessed pulls are as ubiquitous to each room as the Douglas Fir plank floors to provide a simple continuity that encourages tranquility in the resident’s otherwise enterprising life. To increase quietude, the street-facing living and dining room have a large high pile rug and are lined with curtains to reduce the murmur of the Flatiron District. With a modest palette of white, tan, and grays we are able to highlight key elements in each room without any over-embellishment. As each space is comprised of a loose collection of furniture, we elected to use warmer oak and walnut furniture to contrast the white washed wood floors and avoid the distraction of an entirely foreign material.Save this picture!Courtesy of Echo Design + ArchitectureThe Result is a Home Whose Cornerstones are Wellness and Efficiency. Throughout the process, the client expressed the need to be able to wind down after long and demanding days. As the owner of small businesses, the entrepreneur lifestyle requires constant ingenuity that becomes very taxing. The simple interiors and efficiently organized space allow them to avoid unwanted distractions and focus on recovering physical and mentally from a day’s challengesSave this picture!Courtesy of Echo Design + ArchitectureProject gallerySee allShow lessPLC House / Catalina Lanza Castelli + AR ArquitectosSelected ProjectsAnne Frank House Museum Cafe / NamelokSelected ProjectsProject locationAddress:Flatiron District, New York, NY, United StatesLocation to be used only as a reference. first_imgA bible-thumping farmer who stole €177,000 from seven investors will be sentenced on July 19.Thomas Elvin, 51, from Meenacargagh, Ballybofey, told the investors he could make millions through his company Pear Shaped Resources. But the scheme collapsed, leaving Co Donegal investors out of pocket. Elvin claimed to have been suffering psychological problems since his case featured on the RTE news.He was found guilty at an earlier trial of illegally operating an investment scheme.During his trial Elvin, whose Pear Shaped Resources was based in the British Virgin Islands, claimed that he was a penniless bible-believer who wanted to raise millions for benevolent causes. He operated from a computer on his farm through Internet contact with a US aide, Larry Marsella who had a plan to raise 25 per cent profit a day on high-risk investments on international currency exchanges through a system known as forex. Elvin admitted in court that he hoped to turn 50,000 dollars into 98 million dollars in between 30 and 45 days but Marsella, whom he trusted, duped him.Judge O’Hagan was told that €38,000 from “frozen” money had been repaid to one woman victim who lost €102,000 to Elvin. None of the rest of the cash was ever recovered.Today Judge O’Hagan said he needed time to assess the case and would give his sentence on July 19.  ‘GOD FRAUD’ CROOK SENTENCING ADJOURNED was last modified: July 10th, 2012 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more
